Over The Fence Community Socials

From around 2015 – 2020 we had the last Thursday of every month designated as an open house social held in the BarNone Studio. We called it Over The Fence, and I had so much fun making the visual brand for this event out of coats and hats and ladders and brooms, depicting neighbours hanging out.

I  can’t even remember all the fabulous speakers, slide shows, documentaries, Show-and-Tells, all the topics we were able to introduce to our audience. The only criteria for these evenings was that everyone left feeling uplifted, inspired, or amused, never doom and gloom. Advertising and promotion of these evenings was left mostly to word of mouth, rarely was there a door fee, and were always open to anyone. Occasionally, we had some success advertising through the Village of Inglewood web page,  yet we were looking for the local walk in community, and not so much wanting to draw from the broader population base around Caledon.

One fabulous series of six evenings included Owen Goltz presenting stories and slides explaining the history of farming the Brampton Plains. David Robertson presented a thoroughly rich and detailed history of the Woolen Mill here in Inglewood, and the other mills of the time. The Series concluded with a guest professor from Uof T explaining the findings of the archaeological dig done on the farm revealing evidence of the Meadowland Era.
